FAQ
How do Malossi synthetic yellow diamonds grew?
Synthetic diamonds grow in a laboratory, thanks to a highly sophisticated technology, which recreates the ideal conditions in which natural diamonds grow, for example, extremely high pressure and greatly elevated temperatures.
The process starts with a very
small seed, which
crystalizes when placed in an appropriate “incubator”, giving life to a rough synthetic diamond which is faceted by an expert cutter.
What are the affinities between synthetic and natural diamonds?
The
crystal-chemical, physical and optical proprieties are similar, like
the brilliance, fire and brightness.
Hardness, specific weight and refraction index have the same values.
Moreover, they are unique: there are no two identical synthetic diamonds, just as there are no two identical natural diamonds and both are to all effects
“diamonds”: Whether
natural, or
synthetic.
So, how can we recognise them?
By their
typical metallic inclusions and by their
different growth structure caused by their formation in the laboratory, both of which are visible with a microscope.
A
gemological laboratory always provides assured identification indicating their synthetic origin and describing their internal characteristics.
Other differences?
Where they are grown: natural diamonds are formed in mines, synthetic grow in a laboratory.
History: that of diamonds is ancient, fascinating and adventurous: that of synthetics is very recent, technological and almost futuristic.
The cost: synthetic yellow diamonds cost a lot less than natural ones of an equal color and clarity
